Our Adventures
Our first home
After working together for a number of years and having talked about starting our own business venture, we finally took the plunge and did it…after much deliberation about the business name! On 2nd January 2018, Prescient was born and our first office was co-located with the GBCC in Edgbaston where traditions included creaky rides in the lift up to the ‘Prescient Penthouse’ on the 7th floor, learning Greek courtesy of our nice but noisy next-door neighbours and ‘Fat Friday’ lunches over the road at The Physician.
Our first clients
Our lovely new friends at the GBCC helped to introduce us to some of our early clients and before long, our business plan was up and running… but we continue to re-write and evolve this all the time as new and exciting offerings are being developed.
Game (on!), set, match…
In June 2018, we were proud to sponsor a table at the prestigious Birmingham Classic women’s tennis tournament held at the Edgbaston Priory Club. We had a fantastic day on centre court strengthening our existing business relationships and meeting some great new people from the local business community.
Team building
As teamwork is an essential part of our ethos, naturally we do lots of team building activities. This time, we tested our brain power and resilience under pressure by visiting a local escape room… and luckily for our clients, we did successfully escape. In fact, we can proudly say that we’ve been there, done that and got the lab coat.
Good news travels fast…
It’s not long before Team Prescient go on tour with their first business trip to Europe to work with some great clients and support them with all things people, process and strategy.
Moving home
By July 2018, we’re already expanding and able to move into our latest home at 3 Brindleyplace – or as we affectionately call it – Prescient Plaza. It’s a real ‘pinch me’ moment as we set up the new office in a fantastic building and there is a real buzz outside in the square as we enjoy one of the best British heatwaves we’ve seen in years.
High times in the mountains
Our next team building event took place amidst the beautiful surroundings of the Snowdonia National Park when we decide to have a ‘meeting on a mountain’. We learnt a lot about each other as well as what you can achieve with hard work, perseverance and good humour… with the occasional helping of Jaffa Cakes thrown in when the going really did get a bit tough towards the top.
It’s good to give back
After attending a breakfast seminar with Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands (aka Kate’s career hero), we were inspired to sign up for the Mayor’s Mentors scheme to help give young people the life skills and advice they need to flourish.
On tour again
Not only are we fortunate enough to partner on transformational projects with fantastic clients, we are also incredibly lucky to get to visit some amazing places along the way. Highlights so far include San Jose (California) and Fargo (North Dakota) in the USA, Gdansk and Warsaw in Poland and even Beirut in Lebanon. David has even been as far as Hong Kong!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
Here at Prescient Plaza, we do love Christmas, so we were very excited to get our first Christmas tree to help decorate the office… in corporate colours, of course!
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…
Never ones to let the weather stop us, we still made it to the client meeting in Poland (but we did pack a sledge, just in case!)
Happy 1st Birthday
January 2019 and as the Christmas and New Year festivities come to an end, we still had something to celebrate with our very first birthday. What a year it has been and we enjoy the celebrations with an extra special ‘Fizz Friday’ and no birthday party is complete without some delicious cake.
Another anniversary
This time, it’s our one of our lovely clients sending us a surprise ‘thank you’ in the post for working with them during the past 12 months. It’s a pleasure to work with you too.
And the award goes to…
We may not have picked up the top prize on the night, but we were still delighted to have been nominated as finalists in the Excellence in International Business category at the GBCC Annual Awards 2019. To be shortlisted with some outstanding businesses was a real honour and were immensely proud of this achievement… and we made sure that we celebrated in style at the ceremony held at the ICC.
An office with a view…
An office environment that encourages you to ‘think outside’ and better still, actually enables you to think, work, rest and play outside… now this is why we love what we do.
The business needs a new name
Yes, 18 months later, we were still talking about possible alternatives. After scratching our heads some more and coming up with ideas including Celeritas and West-East, in the end, we decided that the name Prescient was here to stay. But we did give ourselves a bit of a makeover with a brand refresh and commissioned our lovely new logo.
Our Apprentices
Home grown talent is always the best talent… especially in this case where our 2 little apprentices really are home grown! These bright, future faces came into the office for the day during their half term holiday to help Mum and get a glimpse into the wonderful world of business consultancy. Kate definitely has 2 HR Managers in the making but then again, after they found our chocolate supplies, they could easily become Quality Control Managers, too!
Midday Mile
As part of our workplace wellbeing challenge, some of the team take to the sunny canal-side towpath for a walking meeting – you’d be surprised how productive and motivating this can be, as well as getting some extra steps in.
Did you know? – Birmingham has more miles of canals than Venice! In fact, it proudly boasts c. 35 miles of bustling canal networks
Here comes the sun
Summer has arrived at Prescient Plaza and Brindleyplace is looking ‘blooming’ lovely. We’re making the most of the glorious weather with our flexible working which enables us to work outside and keep cool by treating the team to ice-creams. We’re really proud to have such a great work environment plus the sunshine and fresh air keeps us all feeling fresh and focused.
